Legacies of structural racism underlie many current practices and policies, including those regarding policing, incarceration, voter registration and ballot access. Texas lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have proposed legislation for the 87th Texas State Legislature that would shape policies on these and other issues.

This event will bring together Rice and Houston-area faculty, students, and campus and community partner organizational representatives for two moderated roundtable discussions on the historical salience and anticipated community impact of legislation around policing, incarceration, and voting being considered during the 87th Texas Legislature.
