The Certificate in Civic Leadership provides students with the opportunity to integrate academic and experiential knowledge and address real world issues through collaboration with diverse community partners. The final requirement of the program is the development of a Capstone project that involves community-based leadership, research, and service. These projects build capacity within a community partner organization and allow students to think critically to problem-solve and create change in systemic issues facing Houston and beyond.
In addition to the Capstone, students must take one leadership course and one social issue course, and must have completed a CCL immersion program and action program to receive the certificate. Completion of the certificate represents that a student has developed core competencies that prepare them to exercise leadership in a variety of roles as an active citizen. Students interested in community-based leadership, research and service opportunities are encouraged to apply.
The CCL is currently accepting abstracts from students interested in participating in the Certificate in Civic Leadership Program. Juniors and Seniors are eligible to apply to the certificate program and should email Fatima Raza, the Certificate Advisor, about their intent to apply by the end of this semester, prior to submitting the application in August.
