Ross Rankin Moody Civic Immersion
Leadership

Applications for the 2023 Site Leader position are now open!

Moody Civic Immersion (formerly Urban Immersion / Civic Owlets) is a summer program coordinated by the CCL that introduces incoming students (both first years and transfers) to the principles of civic leadership, ethical community engagement, and to the City of Houston. The guiding mission of the program is to foster the growth of informed and passionate advocates for social justice through community-based learning, critical service, and reflection.

This program is offered in a hybrid model, providing in-person and virtual tracks for students from a diverse range of backgrounds and geographical locations to meet and build community. Students participating in-person will live and learn as cohorts together in Houston for a week, meanwhile students participating virtually will be immersed in similar programs and activities intentionally designed for the virtual cohort, and engage in hybrid facilitated workshops. Civic Immersion is led by current Rice students eager to help students learn from community organizations, collaborate on projects to assist them, and engage in group and individual reflections. For a more detailed program description, visit ccl.rice.edu/co.

The 2023 student leadership team will work together to plan the in-person and virtual cohort tracks of Civic Immersion for July 2023. In-person programming for  Civic Immersion will be dependent upon Rice policies for group gatherings and upon public health and safety considerations for both Houston and for domestic travel. In the event of a shift to completely remote program due to health and safety, in-person site leaders will be offered the opportunity to continue as remote leaders.
