Moody Civic Immersion (formerly Urban Immersion / Civic Owlets) is a summer program coordinated by the CCL that introduces incoming students (both first years and transfers) to the principles of civic leadership, ethical community engagement, and the City of Houston. The guiding mission of the program is to foster the growth of informed and passionate advocates for social justice through community-based learning, critical service, and reflection.

This program is offered in a hybrid model, providing in-person and virtual options for students from a diverse range of backgrounds and geographical locations to meet and build community. Students participating in-person will live and learn as cohorts together in Houston for a week, meanwhile, students participating virtually will be immersed in similar programs and activities intentionally designed for the virtual cohort and engage in hybrid facilitated workshops. Civic Immersion is led by current Rice students eager to help students learn from community organizations, collaborate on projects to assist them and engage in group and individual reflections.
