The Certificate in Civic Leadership is a pathway through undergraduate civic development that facilitates your experiential and academic learning. It will…

  • Show on your transcript after completion,
  • Bring intentionality, scaffolding, and advising support to your civic journey,
  • And it represents that you have developed core competencies preparing you to exercise leadership as an active citizen post-graduation.

CCL Programs:

🔳One Learn Level 

(ASB, HPC, Civic Immersion/Owlets, America Reads)

🔳One Act Level 

(Leadership of ASB, CI/CO, or HART, Loewenstern, LRME, Rich Family Endowment)

Elective Courses:

🔳One Leadership Course 

(LEAD 340, 260, 102, etc.)

🔳One Social Issue Course 

All approved elective courses can be found here.

Final Pieces:

🔳Capstone (UNIV 402 & 403 - an independent community-based project you design and implement alongside a community partner)

🔳Certificate Portfolio (a collection of your civic work, culminating in final reflection essays)

Timeline :

  • Capstone projects may be completed either Junior or Senior year after completion of most, if not all, program and elective requirements. Note: One Act Level program is absolutely required as a pre-requisite to Capstone.
  • Must declare intent to pursue certificate in the spring semester prior to starting the Capstone course (submit intent to complete form on InfoReady).
  • Formal application to the certificate program due in May prior to the start of Capstone in August.
