Hi guys! My name is Celeste Wang and I am a senior at Lovett studying Neuroscience with a minor in Global Health Technologies on the pre-med track. I was first introduced to the CCL as a participant in Civic Owlets (now known as Civic Immersion). This experience really opened my eyes to health disparities in Houston. I further explored this as a participant in an ASB that focused on the impact of COVID-19 on various social determinants of health in racial and ethnic minority populations. Both of these experiences influenced me to become site leaders for Civic Owlets and ASB the next year. For the ASB I co-site lead, we focused on mental health in racial and ethnic minorities through the lens of mental health and racial capitalism and met various community partners in Houston and Austin. Site leading my ASB trip has definitely become one of the core memories I have from Rice. I was also a Loewenstern fellow and I traveled to Kenya to work with Azadi Kenya, an anti-human trafficking organization, and The Rights Lab from the University of Nottingham. For about 10 weeks, I assisted with ethical storytelling and participatory photography workshops, curated an art exhibition, and focused on an individual research project on the impact of art therapy on the mental well-being of survivors of human trafficking. Now I am a CCL Ambassador and I have enjoyed working on helping students get connected to our programs and putting on community-building events :)

Outside of the CCL programs, I enjoy creating art, watching anime, and working as a pharmacy technician.
