The Caring Friends Inc. Scholarship supports hands on compassionate service from one neighbor to another inclusive of race, gender, and religion or humanitarian tradition. A successful applicant will write a two-page essay that explains how their philosophical understandings, faith tradition, or spiritual tradition provides the framework for their humanitarian service. This award is open to graduate and undergraduate students.
The Center for Civic Leadership will select the strongest applicants and send their essays to the Caring Friends Board for their selection of the winning application. Caring Friends will make the final selection without regard to race, religion, philosophical tradition, or gender.
Essay Objective :
The objective of the essay is to explain with some specifics how your personal philosophy, religious faith or humanitarian tradition influences and guides your engagement in community service and civic leadership. What ethical or moral values guide you and where do those values come from?
Write an essay of no more than two pages (double-spaced) that meets the stated objective of the Caring Friends essay contest. Please include your name, the date you are submitting your application, and graduation month/year on three separate lines (aligned right) in the header.
The Caring Friends Context :
As a faith-based non-profit that derives its ethos from the life and teachings of Christ, the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37, New Testament) is instructive for Caring Friends in sponsoring a competitive essay contest in a pluralistic university context.
The Caring Friends Indeed scholarship is about affirming hands-on compassionate service to neighbors inclusive of race, gender, religion or humanitarian tradition.
Applications will be evaluated based on essay content and caliber as related to the prompt, and adherence to the application instructions. Letters of support will not be considered.
