Hey Y’all! My name is Joshua Adegoke, and I’m a senior at Duncan College studying Political Science and Sociology. My involvement with the CCL has taken me from participating in Civic Immersion to serving as a Site Leader and (most recently) returning as a Facilitator. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to work with community partners across vast social issues, including BakerRipley, TEJAS, NAMI Greater Houston, LINK Houston, PAIR Houston, and more! These experiences have allowed me to explore issues ranging from environmental justice and transportation equity to health access and social determinants of health, while giving me a deeper understanding of the city I’ve called home. Outside of Houston, I participated in an Alternative Spring Break in New Orleans focused on homelessness and housing insecurity and later spent the summer in Mexico as a Moody Global Fellow, where I further explored community engagement in an international setting. I’m now excited to continue my CCL journey as an Ambassador while developing my focus on criminal justice and youth incarceration through the CCL Certificate. The CCL has given me opportunities to learn, lead, and engage with communities in ways that have shaped how I think about civic leadership, and I hope to help you and any other Rice students find opportunities that do the same. If you have any questions about CCL programs or my experiences, feel free to reach out to me at jda12@rice.edu!
