Moody Civic Immersion: Late Departure is an immersive, experiential learning opportunity for students to wrap up their first year at Rice with a reflection on how they might engage in civic leadership activities going forward. The guiding mission of the program is to foster the growth of informed and passionate advocates for social justice through community-based learning, critical service, and reflection. Civic Immersion: Late Departure (CI:LD) is led by current Rice students eager to help students learn from community organizations, collaborate on projects to assist them and engage in group and individual reflections. 

The 2026 student leadership team will work together to plan and implement the in-person and virtual cohort tracks of Civic Immersion for July 2025. Student leadership roles include:

Site Leaders: Work in a pair to plan and implement the Moody Civic Immersion: Late Departure session with follow-up events in the fall semester. Responsibilities include community partner engagement, curriculum development, logistics planning, and peer mentorship.

• In-person Fall 2025 through Spring 2026
• Stipends start at $1,200 (in-person)

Facilitators: Support the implementation of the in-person session of Civic Immersion, including community-building, transportation, and reflection facilitation.

2026 Moody Civic Immersion: Late Departure Session will be held:

• Orientation meetings twice in April, dates and times TBD
• May 6-12, 2026 in Houston

Funding: Site Leader stipends start at $1000; Facilitator stipends start at $500
Eligibility: Open to all returning, on-campus undergraduate students
