Fall 2025 Applications Now Open!
Apply here: America Reads - Fall 2025
Join America Reads and become a mentor to local students in need of academic support. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to make a lasting impact in the Houston community.
America Reads mentors earn $15 per hour. Mentors must have Federal Work-Study and be able to work at least 4 hours per week. (Federal Work-Study eligibility can be found in ESTHER as part of a student's financial aid package, labeled as "Federal Work-Study Program." Please note we are not able to accept "Rice Work," which is a different financial aid award.)
America Reads is open to ALL majors and is a great opportunity for students that:
- Enjoy working with youth
- Want to be more engaged with the Houston community
- Would like field experience in Houston by mentoring youth or tutoring students in a variety of subjects (from elementary school reading to AP-level physics)
